Hel

Here is a sketch card of Hel that I drew for the LEGENDS & LORE card set. Sketch card measures 2.5" x 3.5".

Hel - Daughter of Loki and goddess of the underworld (keeper of the dead), Niflheim, was thrown into Niflheim by Odin, who decreed that she must rule over men who died of sickness or old age. Hel was cold, but not especially cruel or malevolent, although later Christian writers portrayed her as a monster. She was frightening to look at, however: half of her face human and the other half blank. The Scandinavian word Hel originally simply meant the place where the dead go, but this became personified into the goddess Hel. The English word, Hell, naturally derives from the Scandinavian.

PLEASE, NEGATIVE CRITIQUES ARE NOT WELCOME AND WILL BE DELETED. THESE ARE MY INTREPRETATIONS OF THESE CHARACTERS. DESCRIPTIONS ARE BASED ON VARIOUS STORIES THAT ALL DIFFER FROM VARIOUS SOURCES. THANK YOU.
